Waterfield Designs sent me over their very cool (& expensive) Flex Travel Gym bag to check out. I opted for the waxed canvas version of the bag but it also comes in ballistic nylon (you know what the right choice is).

I was surprised to find out how small this bag is for being 25l, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in small storage pockets.

The outer shell once again is that 14.7oz waxed canvas which has a nice weight to it and should age beautifully. The front, back and right side of the bag have zippered storage pockets with the front having multiple flat storage openings and a keyring. The left side opening is for shoe or wet clothes storage since it’s ventilated. Putting a pair of shoes in there will probably take up most of the interior volume, but they do include a removable drawstring bag you can also use.

The rear pocket is large flat storage you can use for tablets or nunchucks, it’s too small for a pc. The right side pocket also expands into the main storage enough to hold a shaker or yeti. The interior lining is a nice gold colored water resistant nylon for ease of finding things.

Inside the main compartment there are sets of flat storage pockets on the front and back of the bag. A nice addition is an elastic pouch on the base of the inside to tuck the excess away from the shoe compartment. With it out of the way there’s a decent amount of space, but If you’re gear obsessed, you might have issues fitting your life into this bag – It should hold most people’s gear just fine.

Interestingly there isn’t an included shoulder strap, but there are D-rings for them. The nylon handles are minimal but nice and there’s a travel strap to put it on your luggage. Also there are loops all over to hang this in a locker.
If you valued aesthetics and functionality over storage volume, this would be a great bag. It is pricey at $389 ($44/49 for strap), but at least it’s made in San Francisco. Pitching it to a crossfitter sounds difficult because of the size/cost ratio, but that doesn’t make it any less nice.

Don’t just take my word for it, they’ve already sold out 5 batches.

Batch #6 ships on 2/17 and is available to order here.
